Christian Fear Factor

Pastor John Wilcox

The evidence that we are not what we should be is all around us.  Look at the condition of the world.  It has been said the doctrine of sin is even absent from the Church.  Look at all of the war, destruction, oppression, hatred, violence and so on.  All of this is from the root problem:  Sin.

Just take a look at the T.V. movies, the Internet, magazines and the newspaper.  Morals are not what they once were.

Not to sound like a prude, but let us look at the recent surge of reality shows.  They play on our desires for revenge, dishonesty, superiority, and to be in control.  Take for instance; shows like the Bachelor, the Bachlorett, average Joe, and My big fat obnoxious fiancé.  They promote the thought that is ok to manipulate and destroy other people’s hearts, emotions and self-esteem for one’s own personal gain or victory.  The people on these shows are encouraged to betray and or deceive family, friends, and acquaintances for their own personal gain or victory for the sole purpose of entertainment.  And how about our good ole buddy Simon on American Idol?  People think it is cute and ok that he be littlies, degrades, insults and humiliate the contestants on the show.

I am reminded of Jesus’ own words:  “If you did it to the least of by brothers, you did it unto me”.  The fact of the matter is this: we are responsible and accountable for out thoughts, attitudes, actions and words.

It seems that we are living in a time where everyone is coming out of his or her closets, except the Christians.

I have my own idea for a reality show called:  The Christian Fear Factor.  It is a show where Christians are challenged to live a life of love, virtue and holiness.  The contestants are challenged to actually follow the commands of Jesus.

Christian Fear Factor:  Here is some scenes form Christian Fear Factor.

Challenge 1:  Christians are challenged to live a holy and moral lifestyle.  They are challenged to extend love and forgiveness towards others.

Challenge 2:  Christians are challenged to get out of their comfort zones and share their faith, witness and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others.

Challenge 3:  Christians are required to take a leap of Faith and do and follow what the Lord is personally calling them to do or to be.

Challenge 4:  In this the last scene, Christians are required to something that is even harder and grosser than eating leeches or a sheep’s eyeball.  They are required to eat their own words and swallow their pride and even say, “I am sorry”.  They will be expected to apologize and ask forgiveness for their words and actions.

Our lives seem to be so messed up, dysfunctional and sinful.  We often wonder if GOD can, or even will forgive us.  Are we too far gone?  Can He really forgive us for what we have done?   The answer is an emphatically YES.
